September of this year turned out to be very rich in valuable purchases. On September 27, a photograph of Prince William of Wales with his autograph appeared in my collection.
His Highness Prince William of Wales was born on June 21 of 1982 in London. His full name is William Arthur Philip Louis Mountbatten-Windsor — the elder son of Charles, the Prince of Wales, and his first wife, late Princess Diana, a grandson of the Queen of the United Kingdom Elizabeth II. He is a great grandson of the Queen of the Hellenes Olga Konstantinovna, through who he is in kinship with the Russian Royal House of Romanovs.
At present, he holds the second place in the line of succession to the throne; in the case of his ascension to the throne he will be named William V.
Although his title (as well as his brother Harry’s) contains the words “Prince” and “of Wales,” he is not actually “The Prince of Wales” – the title with this word order belongs only to the heir of the throne, in this particular case – to his father Charles.
Prince William was born in St. Mary’s hospital in London. His baptism took place on August 4 of 1982 in the Buckingham Palace. The prince’s godparents are: former King of Greece Constantine, Sir Laurence van der Post, Princess Alexandra of Kent, Mary West, the Duchess of Westminster, Lord Romsey Baron of Brabourne and the Lady Susan Hussey. He was given four names — William Arthur Philip Louis.
On his mother’s side, Prince William is a descendant of King James II, while on his father’s side – of the Russian Emperor Nicolai I.
Prince William studied at the elementary pre-preparatory Wetherby School, and then at the Ludgrove preparatory school in Berkshire. After that William entered the world-famous Eton College. Upon his graduation from Eton, William spent one year in Chile as a volunteer of a charity organization «Raleigh International».
From 2001 to 2005, Prince William studied in Saint Andrews University in Scotland, specializing in the history of art and, later, in geography.
January through December of 2006, William completed a training course at the Royal military academy in Sandhurst.
He has his own particular coat of arms.
