Hillary Clinton

The United States Secretary of State, brilliant lawyer, unrivalled speaker, public person, beloved wife and mother — all of this is Hillary Clinton. I have a photograph, upon which madam Hillary Clinton put her autograph and I am exceedingly proud of this, since I like this legendary and strong woman.

Hillary Rodham Clinton was born on October 26, 1947 in Chicago. In 1969, she received her bachelor’s degree and entered Yale Law School. In 1973, she received a Juris Doctor degree.

It was in the university where she met her future husband Bill Clinton. They got married in 1975.

The Clinton couple has a daughter – Chelsea (born in 1980).

Prior to her marriage, Hillary Clinton worked in Children Defense Fund and as a staff member of the House Committee on the Judiciary. Then she moved to Arkansas where Bill Clinton started his political career.

From 1975 she taught at the faculty of Law of Arkansas University, and from 1977 she worked in Rose Law Firm.

In 1978, President Jimmy Carter appointed Hillary to the board of directors of the Legal Services Corporation. That same year Bill Clinton was elected as Governor of Arkansas.

Being the First Lady of the State for twelve years (1979-1981 and 1983-1993), Clinton did not stay on the sidelines and was quite active participating in the public life of the State; in particular, in such areas as education, public health and children rights protection.

Having become the First Lady of the United States after Clinton’s victory in the presidential campaign of 1992, Hillary, at her husband’s request, in 1993, headed up the Task Force on National Health Care Reform but one year later she left her office.

After Barak Obama won the presidential elections in 2008, he offered Hillary Clinton the office of the US Secretary of State. On November 21, Hillary Clinton agreed to accept the office, of which Barak Obama officially informed on December 1.

On December 10, the Congress passed a special law on cutting down the salary of the Secretary of State so that (according to the so-called Senator Saxbe Rule) an acting senator could become the Secretary of State. The law was signed by George Bush on December 19. At the same time, any increase of Senator Hillary Clinton’s emolument was banned.

Hearings on the candidature of Hillary Clinton for the office of the US Secretary of State started in the Senate, in the Foreign Relations Committee on January 13 of 2009. Two days later, the Committee approved her candidacy (by the majority of 16 votes against 1 vote).

After Barak Obama’s inauguration on January 20, the Senate postponed making the decision on the candidature of Hillary Clinton. The decision was made by the full Senate on January 21 and approved by the majority of 94 against 2 votes. On the same day Hillary Clinton took the oath and resigned as a Senator from the State of New York. The new Secretary of State moved in to the Department of State on January 22.
