The setting of the science fiction action movie Oblivion takes place in 2077 after a war with the alien invaders, which forced almost all humans to leave the earth. The main character of the film – Jack Harper (Tom Cruise) works as a repairs technician in the service, patrolling the desolated earth after the evacuation. He participates in the operation to search for valuable resources, after which he would have to join other survivors in a colony on a space station and leave the earth. But during his next patrol he finds a capsule with a handsome female stranger.

«I have always enjoyed science fiction films. This genre in the film industry allows people like Joseph Kosinski to express his vision on the screen, and create new whole worlds” – Tom Cruise shared his impressions.
Mister Cruise thinks that today science fiction films have the same function as westerns once had. “This is an experience of an epic movie, where film directors take their audience to a new world. Before Kubrick we saw the outer space in black and white, he was the first one to show us the outer space in colour. Then there was Steven Spielberg  with his “E. T. The Extra-Terrestrial.” And then Ridley Scot with his “Blade Runner.” After them we began to perceive the sci-fi genre in an absolutely different way.»

His partner in the film – actress Olga Kurylenko said that when she was preparing for her part, she re-watched Andrei Tarkovsky’s “Solaris.” “It seemed to me that it matched this film in many ways, since the matter of human memory is also developed in it,” – Kurylenko pointed out. The actress told the journalists that the film’s title “Oblivion” could be rendered to the Russian audience as “Forgetfulness.” Here the matter of memory is brought into focus: it is a story of a man, who partially lost his memory – he remembers some things, but other things he does not remember. In some way, this is a political movie. Is it worthwhile for us to know all the truth, or we should believe everything that we are told, and live in forgetfulness instead? Jack goes looking for the truth to look it in the eye,” – the actress summed up.
The film will be released in Russia on April 11 of 2013.
