Today, on March 13, 2013, late in the evening, white smoke arose from the Sistine Chapel in Vatican to announce to the whole world the election of the 266th successor of Saint Apostle Peter, the Roman Pope. The choice fell on the 76-year old archbishop of Buenos Aires Jorge Mario Bergoglio. The new Pope adopted the name of Francis in honour of the founder of the biggest monastic order of the Franciscans – the Order of Francis of Assisi.

“It seems that my brothers cardinals did practically the impossible  (to elect the Pope)” – said Pope Francis in first address to the people, who gathered on the Saint Peter square.”

From his first appearing before the believers, Pope Francis won their hearts, asking them to pray for him.
