April 4—7, 2012, Trip to Finland

Finland

There will be a trip to Finland on April 4—7 of 2012. I plan to get acquainted with the cities of Tampere and Pori and their history, architecture, culture and traditions. Visiting religious and other spiritual sites. Tasting dishes of local and national cuisine. On my return from the journey, I will add new photographs to the Photo Albums’ section, and share some information in the Articles’ section.

Tampere, the official Russian name before 1917 — Tammerfors, is the second by significance city center after Helsinki. The population is 215,315 people (2011), area — 689.59 sq. m. The city is located between the two lakes: Näsijärvi in the north and Pyhäjärvi in the south, in the Pirkanmaa Province, in the Län of Western Finland. The Lakes’ water level difference is 18 meters, which causes the Tammerkoski River 945 meters long to flow between them. The river divides the historical section of the city into two parts.

Pori — is the eleventh biggest city in Finland, located on the west coast of the country. The city’s center is 16 kilometers away from the Gulf of Bothnia, on the banks of the Kokemäenjoki River, 242 kilometers from Helsinki and 392 kilometers from the Russian Border.
